AD/PD 2025 Day 2 Recap – April 2
Day 2 at AD/PD was another exciting day. One of our collaborators, Henrik Zetterberg spoke on how you don’t need mass spectrometry for good clinical biomarker work and that highly sensitive immunoassays work very well.
Dr. Amanda Heslegrave from UCL gave an informative product theater presentation on her 10-year history of working with Quanterix and the type of research she and her team have been able to do with the power of Simoa. This full recording will be available in the next few weeks.
There was also much conversation around unlocking the hidden power of extracellular vesicles (EVs), tiny but mighty biomarkers revolutionizing neurodiagnostics. A well-attended morning session showcased cutting-edge advances in neuronal EV research, including EM, seed amplification, animal models, siRNA, Simoa, and transcriptomics.
Key findings highlighted ATP1B3’s role in EV loading, uptake, and seeding, and identified small EVs containing ubiquitinated tau as particularly potent in seeding activity. By comparing EV proteins to whole cerebrospinal fluid, researchers are decoding clearer signals of diseases like Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and frontotemporal dementia. Despite the need for large CSF volumes, plasma separation progress is accelerating, bringing us closer to non-invasive precision diagnostics. Targeted EV protein panels are uncovering subtle disease signatures traditional methods miss; opening the door to personalized insights, early diagnosis, and transformative outcomes. Small vesicles, big impact. Welcome to the future of neurology!
We also had two fantastic presentations in our booth from Charlotte Jacob from the University of Antwerp discussing DYRK1A correlations in an Alzheimer’s Disease in Down Syndrome population and Dr. Fernando Gonzalez-Ortiz sharing his findings on Plasma p-tau applications beyond Alzheimer’s disease.
Check out our complete in-booth presentation schedule and come join the conversation.
We look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow for another information packed day!
